Home Organisation Tips For Busy Parents

When we started having kids, I realised it was much more difficult to keep our home organised with young children running around than it was when there were only two adults in the house. Our normal routines just didn't work well anymore, and the clutter and chaos seemed to be increasing by the day. We had to change how we organised our home by streamlining our belongings, altering our daily routine and developing new habits. In time we learned some quick and efficient ways to keep the key areas in our home clutter-free. I started this blog to share our experiences of transforming our home and pass on our tips for organising your home when you have young children to look after.

Benefits of Installing Vertical Blinds in a Home

Many styles of window coverings are available for a home. In fact, the variety can make it challenging to make a choice. To help you decorate your windows, consider the following benefits of vertical blinds.

Large Windows

One crucial factor to focus on when dressing a window is its size. For example, are you looking for coverings for large, expansive windows or glass doors that lead to a patio? If so, vertical blinds are ideal. They consist of a headrail with vertical slats hanging downwards. This structure works for expansive windows as it creates a seamless look. Alternate coverings, such as Venetian or roller blinds, give a bulkier look, as you may need several to protect a wide area.

Convenience

Vertical blinds are also convenient for patio doors. Rather than installing vertical blinds connected along the bottom with a chain, you could install a design with separate slats. This will allow you to walk out through the blind at any point. You won't have to duck underneath it as you would with other styles, such as roller blinds.

Create a Spacious Effect

Repeated vertical lines tend to make an area look taller. For example, striped wallpaper seems to visually push a ceiling higher. Vertical blinds have the same effect, as they form a pattern of repeating vertical lines created by the slats. The walls in your home will thus seem taller and more elegant, and the entire area will appear more spacious.

Light Control

Vertical blinds offer versatile light control options. You can draw them to the side to reveal the windows or glass doors completely. Alternatively, angle the slats to deflect the sun and create a filtered lighting effect. The slats can be made of different materials. Some block out the light and others filter it and let diffused light shine through. Some vertical blinds use sheer curtain-like fabrics, giving the blinds a floaty, soft look.

Colour Choices

Vertical blinds come in a wide range of colours and patterns. You can choose a uniform design in a neutral hue such as beige. Alternatively, create a feature of the blinds by installing them in bright blue or yellow. You can also opt for patterned vertical blinds. These give a dynamic look as the design continues over numerous slats. If you want to create the soft ambience of curtains, install slats using a see-through light material that falls softly to the ground.
