Home Organisation Tips For Busy Parents

When we started having kids, I realised it was much more difficult to keep our home organised with young children running around than it was when there were only two adults in the house. Our normal routines just didn't work well anymore, and the clutter and chaos seemed to be increasing by the day. We had to change how we organised our home by streamlining our belongings, altering our daily routine and developing new habits. In time we learned some quick and efficient ways to keep the key areas in our home clutter-free. I started this blog to share our experiences of transforming our home and pass on our tips for organising your home when you have young children to look after.

Essential Considerations When Buying a Chandelier

Lighting should be functional and stylish. While the design and functionality of some modern lighting fixtures will meet your lighting and aesthetic needs, they do not come close to what a chandelier offers. Chandeliers are beautiful and elegant ornamental lighting fixtures, making a big statement and leaving a lasting impression. This post highlights factors that determine the choice of a chandelier.

Preferred Interior Décor Style

A chandelier should complement your home's interior décor, and this should be the starting point when shopping for one. Ask yourself whether you prefer a traditional or modern look. If your room has a modern look, you should focus on chandeliers with satin nickel or chrome finish. Chandeliers with a satin nickel finish are trendy in modern minimalist homes due to the dull or lacquered and laid-back look. However, if your house has traditional décor, go for chandeliers that bring out the elements of old-fashioned styles. A chandelier with a bronze finish is ideal for a home with contemporary décor.

Primary Source of Light

One of the biggest mistakes homeowners make when shopping for a chandelier is buying it as the primary light source. It might explain why some people prefer chandeliers with exposed bulbs for better illumination. Notably, a chandelier is a simple decorative piece whose sole purpose is to add style to your living space. Therefore, do not spend time trying different bulbs thinking that a chandelier will adequately illuminate an entire room. The best approach is to think of a chandelier as a supplementary light source. It means that other light fixtures in a room, such as recessed cans and wall sconces, should be bright enough even if a chandelier is off. Taking care of a room's primary light source gives you the freedom to choose a chandelier of your liking.

Room Size/Height

Your room's dimensions influence the diameter and height of the appropriate chandelier to buy. Notably, the right chandelier should be proportional to the size of a room when other factors, such as personal taste, are held constant. A good rule of thumb in determining the right chandelier size is to add the width and length of your room. The result (in inches) should be the right diameter of a suitably sized chandelier. However, you also need to consider a room's height because a chandelier that hangs too low is dangerous and looks out of place.
