Home Organisation Tips For Busy Parents

When we started having kids, I realised it was much more difficult to keep our home organised with young children running around than it was when there were only two adults in the house. Our normal routines just didn't work well anymore, and the clutter and chaos seemed to be increasing by the day. We had to change how we organised our home by streamlining our belongings, altering our daily routine and developing new habits. In time we learned some quick and efficient ways to keep the key areas in our home clutter-free. I started this blog to share our experiences of transforming our home and pass on our tips for organising your home when you have young children to look after.

How to Save Money on a Custom Kitchen Remodel

In many ways, the kitchen is the heart of the home. It's for this reason that many homeowners choose to invest a great deal of money in this room. After all, the kitchen is where you cook family meals and romantic meals for two, it's where you might teach your children how to bake, and it's where you hang out on weekend evenings with your friends and neighbours over a glass of wine.

How can you create the custom-made kitchen design of your dreams? There are some ways that you can redesign a kitchen while sticking to a budget. Simply follow the tips and tricks below.

Use the existing layout

Unless you have some serious problems with the current layout of your kitchen, one way to save money is to keep the layout as it is. You'll save on both the design capital and physical capital required to move your kitchen around. Moving something like a dishwasher or oven can be particularly taxing because this can also require the movement of plumbing and wiring, which adds substantial costs to a kitchen refit.

Remodel your existing cabinets

Perhaps the standout feature of a kitchen, and certainly one that many people spend a lot of money on, are kitchen cabinets. Yes, you might have the temptation to rip out your existing cabinets and install completely new ones, but refacing existing cabinets will be substantially cheaper and still give your kitchen a brand-new look. If your cabinets are wooden or made from MDF, they can be resurfaced; if you have laminate cabinets, they will need to be replaced. If you are handy in the home, refacing your cabinets is something that you could do safely and effectively with basic DIY equipment.

Shop local

One of the most effective ways to save money on custom kitchen design is to shop locally. Instead of importing marble from Italy, why don't you explore what kind of stone options are available in your local area? You might be surprised at what you find, you'll most certainly save money and there will be the added bonus of your kitchen remodel not compromising your carbon footprint. You should also explore local talent, such as local woodworkers, who can often offer a stellar service at a very competitive price.

Armed with this information, you can have the custom kitchen of your dreams without getting in trouble with your bank manager.
